Claire is an inspirational school leader with a passion for innovative and holistic education. Having studied Archaeological Science at Bradford University she realised her true vocation was not in studying ancient remains but in nurturing young minds and so completed a PGCE in Mathematics and Physical Sciences at St. Mary’s University and a diploma in Astronomy at University College London. She has taught Maths, Physics and Astronomy in day and boarding schools in England, the Middle East, and South East Asia since she graduated as a teacher in 1993, apart from a one-year sabbatical when she travelled around the world exploring new cultures and taking part in several conservation projects.
Early on in her career, she was recognised as a Lead Science Teacher in a London Borough, helping to improve the quality of Science teaching in the Borough before going on to become Head of Science at The Royal Masonic School and then Deputy Head at an independent day school in London. Here she was involved in the creation of a new school spearheading a more innovative curriculum and approach to teaching. Claire was the Head of Secondary in a bilingual and bicultural school in Bangkok, before accepting the post of Founding Headmistress with Harrow.
Claire’s favourite pastimes are hiking, curling up with an enjoyable book and baking. Claire feels very honoured to be the Founding Head of HILA, Zhuhai and to be working with such a prestigious and innovative group as Harrow. She is very much looking forward to meeting and working with the parents and students and of course learning Mandarin and living in and travelling around China.
Ms. Liu studied English as a Foreign Language at the University of Essex and as a postgraduate at Cambridge University. She has more than ten years of extensive experience in bilingual education and management.
Over 10 years of extensive experience of bilingual education and senior management, she noted for her rigorous attitude to brings expertise in bilingual and bicultural teaching studies and leadership management. Her first professional role was the supervisor at Cambridge Sixth Form College to provide academic support for Chinese students. After accumulated more teaching experience in a few years, she had participated as one of the writers of IB textbook and involved in the school management team to become the committed leadership educator in the international school. Previously, as deputy head and academic principal for one of the highest performing K12 bilingual international school in China, her role is to develop a bilingual curriculum, staffing management and campus operation.
Ms. Liu dedicates herself in cultivating students with premium world-class international education concept, to build their capabilities to look in-depth critically and find creative solutions to problems. Keep learning is her belief and wish to become the life-long learner.
Amit is an experienced school leader with a passion for holistic education and the craft of teaching. He joins us from one of the highest performing state secondary schools in England, where he worked as an Assistant Principal and, before that, as the Head of Faculty for Performing Arts.
Amit brings expertise in the leadership and development of whole-school pastoral programmes, curriculum, teacher development, extra-curricular activities and inclusion. Amit is a musician and technology enthusiast who studied Film Production and Music Technology at Staffordshire University. In recent years, he was awarded the National Professional Qualification for Senior Leadership by University College London.
A committed educator with a belief that every child has a right to access the absolute best opportunities – Amit volunteers as a Trustee for a charity which works to tackle educational inequality in the poorest and most marginalised communities in India. A keen photographer and traveller, Amit very much looks forward to living in, and exploring, China. He feels honoured to be part of the founding family at Harrow Zhuhai and he looks forward to welcoming and working with pupils and parents in the coming years.
Alison has worked in education as a teacher, Head, inspector and teacher trainer. From London, UK she has also worked in Turkey, Azerbaijan, Malaysia and China. She has recently relocated from Guangzhou, where she was the Director of Education for a group of new schools. She particularly enjoys being part of a team establishing pupil centred, holistic education. As well as China, she has been the Founding Head of Early Years and Primary in Malaysia and a UK curriculum school in Baku, Azerbaijan. She finds it very exciting to see the school grow from the start and believes in creating a team that will create an environment which allows pupils to reach their potential and develop lifelong learning skills.
Her work as a School Improvement Consultant in the UK involved inspection, teacher training and developing provision across schools. This enabled her to fully understand quality education and she continued this passion overseas by becoming a Peer Accreditor for COBIS(involving quality assurance across UK schools worldwide) and also an Associate Trainer delivering training, across South East Asia. She was recently elected to sit on the British Chamber of Commerce, Education Working Group which represents UK education in China.
Alison’s Masters in culture, language and identity from Goldsmiths College, London University allowed her to examine biculturalism and bilingualism, after being fascinated by how living overseas had enriched and changed her. Her first degree was in English literature and she decided to venture into teaching because of her love of reading. She enjoys helping pupils develop their reading and writing skills which opens up a whole new world of opportunities.
Alison is passionate about learning about new cultures and languages. She also enjoys reading, writing, swimming, hiking and cycling. She is looking forward to meeting all the pupils and parents very soon!
